ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team opened Atlantic East Conference action with a dominating 30-2 win over Centenary University on Saturday afternoon.
Mike Kiley led the Knights with nine points (4g, 5a).
Drew Conlon tallied six points with three goals and three assists.
Emmett Wexler added three goals and two assist for five points.
Rich Marshall (3g, 1a),
Brett McLaughlin (1g, 3a) and
Max Nice (3g, 1a) all notched four points.
John McGrath picked up seven ground balls and won 11 face-offs.
Jake Methlie won 12 face-offs.
Jake Marchiafava made three saves in over 34 minutes in net for the win.
Mike McAleer and
Robbie Kays also saw time in net in the win.
The Knights started quickly as Marshall scored just 28 seconds into the game. Neumann took a 5-0 lead after four minutes and went to score 10 goals and take a 10-0 lead after the first quarter.
Over the first 10 minutes of the second quarter, Neumann netted five more goals for a 15-0 score before Centenary broke through with 3:48 left in the first half. With two goals in the final minute of the half, the Knights took a 19-1 lead at the break.
Midway through the third quarter,
Victor Troese tallied his first collegiate goal. The Cyclones scored the final goal of the third, but the Knights remained in control, 25-2. With 7:37 left in regulation,
Jaiden Davis joined the scoresheet with his first goal as a Neumann Knight.
This is the second time in program history Neumann has reached the 30-goal mark. The last time was back in the 1999 season when the Knights scored 32 against Eastern. Neumann outshot Centenary 59-11 overall. The Knights also went 16-for-18 on clear attempts and picked up 62 ground balls.
Neumann (8-4, 1-0 Atlantic East) continues conference action when it hosts Marymount next Saturday. The game is slated to get underway at 1:00 PM.
