ASTON, Pa. – It took 12 innings, but the Neumann University baseball team defeated Rosemont College 2-1 on Thursday afternoon in the first-ever meeting of the two teams.
The Neumann pitchers combined for a 12-inning one-hit game.
Nate Griffin started the game and went 8.0 innings. He allowed a run on a hit and struck out five.
Brian Van Etten pitched 3.0 scoreless, hitless innings.
Brennan Hatala picked up the win, pitching the 12
th inning and striking out two.
The Knights scored their first run in the third inning.
Anthony Basciano singled and scored on a single by
Nick Glebocki.
The Ravens had their only hit in the sixth inning which came around to score on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the 12
th,
Zach Ray led off with a walk and stole second.
Alec Silverman hit a sac bunt, but the ball was thrown away, allowing Ray to score for the walk-off win.
Neumann (9-17) has a bye from conference play this weekend and will face the University of Valley Forge on Tuesday. First pitch at MSI is at 6:00 PM.
