Softball Honors Seniors During Conference Doubleheader

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team dropped a pair of Atlantic East Conference contests to Marywood University on Thursday afternoon. The Pacers won by scores of 9-1 and 5-1.
 
In between in the games, the Knights honored their three seniors: Vanessa Bowen, Emily Reid and Kaylee Fiocca.
 
In game one, Ashlynne Scardino started the game and went 5.1 innings. She allowed eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits. Emily DuPont went 1.2 innings in relief and allowed an unearned run on three hits.
 
The Pacers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Knights tied the game when Kristen Pagliaro hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to score Taylor Portzline.
 
Marywood took back the lead with two runs in the top of the third. The Pacers added three in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh for the 9-1 final.
 
In game two, the Knights scored first as Reid reached on a bases-loaded fielders choice to score DuPont in the second inning. The Pacers tied the game with a single run in the top of the third.
 
Neumann loaded the bases again in the bottom of the third but could not get a run across and the game stayed tied at one.
 
Marywood plated four runs with two outs in the fifth inning for the 5-1 score.
 
Olivia Ammon pitched the complete game, going 7.0 innings. She allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits. The one walk the freshman allowed came after a 26-pitch battle where there were 22 foul balls and lasted over 12 minutes.
 
Neumann (10-22, 4-6 Atlantic East) is right back on the field tomorrow when it hosts Delaware Valley in the final home games of the regular season. First pitch is slated for 2:30 PM.
