Adams' 100th Goal Leads Women's Lacrosse To Win Over Immaculata

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team closed out its regular season in style Wednesday afternoon, dominating Immaculata University by a score of 22-9 to clinch the third seed in the Atlantic East Conference playoffs.

Brylin Adams was the star of the day for Neumann, scoring eight times and adding three assists for 11 points. The senior attacker also hit 100 goals for her career in the win. Lindsey Fagan was also excellent for the Knights with six goals and two assists, while Maggie Blemings added two goals and five assists. Reilly Fiedler (3 g, 1 a) also had a solid day offensively, while Catriona Corrigan made nine big saves in goal to pick up her eighth win of the year.

In a battle to determine Atlantic East Conference playoff positioning, Neumann showed from the opening draw that it was eager to climb the conference standings. The Knights set the tone with a Fagan goal 48 seconds into the contest, then followed that up with two more tallies to lead 3-0 at the 9:03 mark of the first frame. The Mighty Macs answered back with a goal a minute later to cut the lead to 3-1, but three more unanswered goals from the hosts late in the quarter made it 6-1 after one. Adams played a part in two of those markers with a goal and an assist, while Blemings and Jayana Murray also found the back of the net in the three-goal run.

Fiedler got the Knights rolling early in the second with a goal just under two minutes into the period to make it 7-1, but the Immaculata attack found some life after that. The Mighty Macs scored the next four goals of the quarter over a five-minute span to cut the Neumann lead all the way to 7-5. That was as close as the visitors would get though all day long, as the Knights again closed out the frame on a run of their own. Bekah Brosky curtailed the Immaculata rally with a goal at the 4:29 mark and the floodgates opened from there. Neumann would score three more times in the final 3:28 of the period to regain a six-goal advantage heading to halftime at 11-5. Adams again played the central figure in the late run, scoring twice to break the 100-goal barrier in her career. Murray also added her second marker of the game to help the hosts get to halftime with a comfortable lead.

The Mighty Macs came out of halftime trying their best to get back into the matchup and scored two of the first three goals of the quarter to cut the lead to five at 12-7 with 8:29 to play. Immaculata could not sustain the burst though, as Neumann continued to find ways to create offense. The Knights finished the quarter with six of the final seven scores in the frame to blow the game wide open. Adams, Fagan and Blemings had a hand in all six goals in the run, as Fagan recorded three goals, Adams registered two goals and an assist and Blemings picked up a goal and three assists. The game would head to the fourth quarter with the score 18-8 in favor of the hosts.

Neumann closed out the contest by continuing to add to its advantage. The Knights outscored the visitors for the fourth straight frame, finding the back of the net four times compared to just one goal for the Mighty Macs. The dynamic duo of Fagan and Adams kept their foot on the pedal in the period, each scoring twice and adding an assist as the game finished 22-9.

With the win, Neumann (8-7, 2-3 Atlantic East) clinches the third-seed in the conference playoffs and will take on sixth-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University this Saturday, April 30th. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
