ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team begins its journey in the 2022 Atlantic East Conference playoffs this Saturday, April 30th when the team takes on Immaculata University at 4:00 PM.
Neumann finished the season with a 10-7 overall record and a 3-3 conference mark to finish as the four-seed in the playoffs. Immaculata enters the playoffs as the five-seed with a 5-9 overall record and a 2-4 conference record.
The Knights know all about the Mighty Macs, having recently faced them on the road Wednesday in the conference regular season finale. Neumann was victorious by a count of 22-9 to earn home-field advantage for the playoff rematch.
Rich Marshall paced the Knights with eight points on five goals and three assists, while
Drew Conlon had a seven point day (3 g, 4 a).
Wyatt Belotti,
Emmett Wexler and
Mike Kiley also all had hat-tricks in the rout.
Jake Marchiafava stopped 12 shots to earn his 10th win of the season.
Neumann has been led all season long by a balanced group of attackers. Conlon leads the team with 80 points, scoring 44 goals and adding 36 assists. The senior eclipsed the 200 point total earlier this year in a win at Gwynedd Mercy.
Rich Marshall is second on the team in both goals (35) and points (53), while
Mike Kiley is third in goals (22) and second in assists (22). Six more Knights have tallied double-digit goals this season, including
Emmett Wexler (20),
Wyatt Belotti (17),
Max Nice (17),
Kyle Daly (14),
Sam Nice (14) and
Brett McLaughlin (12).
McLauglin has been a force at both ends of the field for Neumann, ranking fourth on the team in points with 30, while also leading the team in ground balls (79) and caused turnovers (46).
John Giovinazzo and Cannon Coyle have also been defensive stalwarts for the Knights, while
Jake Marchiafava has been excellent in his first year as the starter in goal. The sophomore net-minder has won 10 games, stopping 166 shots with a .516 save percentage and a 10.64 goals against average.
If the Knights prevail over Immaculata on Saturday, the team will advance to the semifinal round next Wednesday, May 4th. The Atlantic East Championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 7th.
