ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Keystone College 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The meeting between the Giants and Knights was the first for Coach
Scott Grimes, who played college baseball for Keystone. It was also the first time Coach Grimes faced his former coach.
Keystone and Neumann were common opponents before the Knights moved to the Atlantic East. The win on Tuesday was the first for the Knights over the Giants since April 29, 2017. Keystone also had won 12 of the last 13 meetings.
The Knights were led by several strong pitching performances.
Brennan Hatala started the game and went 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and one unearned run.
Nick Colon went 4.0 innings and allowed two runs and struck out three for the win.
Nick Glebocki picked up the save going 2.0 innings without allowing a hit or run.
The Knights fell behind in the second 1-0 but bounced back two innings later when they drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks. Neumann would tack on one more in the fifth when
Ryan Lopez scored on a wild pitch.
Shawn Vega hit an RBI single in the sixth and
Anthony Basciano scored on a sacrifice fly by Lopez for a 5-1 game.
Keystone would get two back in the seventh but that would be as close as the Giants would get, and the Knights held on for the 5-3 win.
Neumann (12-20) heads into the final conference series of the regular season this weekend. The Knights will host Marymount in a single game on Friday beginning at 3:00 PM.
