ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season at its first home game of the season, defeating St. Mary's College (Md.) 3-0 on Wednesday evening.
Regan Hickey led the Knights with 11 kills and five service aces.
Lauren Garvey added 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage.
Dani Smith handed out 35 assists.
Claudia Bournazel notched 13 digs.
Neumann opened the match by scoring the first five points. With the Knights leading 22-16, the Seahawks scored six of the next eight points to pull within two, 24-22. A kill by
Maria Brown sealed the 25-22 first set win for Neumann.
The Knights scored two-to-three points at a time in the second set and came away with the 25-12 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Down 6-5 in set three, key serving by Garvey led Neumann to nine straight points and a 14-6 lead. That helped the Knights cruise to a 25-14 set three win and 3-0 match win.
Neumann (1-7) prepares to host its annual Knights Invitational this weekend. The Knights will face Gettysburg at 8:00 PM on Friday.
