ARLNGTON, Va. – The Neumann University women's basketball team pushed in the second half, but could not overcome a first half deficit, falling at Marymount University 60-46 on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East Conference action.
Lauren Klieber notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Terea Hunt added 10 points while
Emily DuPont tallied nine.
Over the first three minutes of the game, the teams went back and forth. A three-pointer by Klieber put the Knights a 7-6 edge. The Saints then went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to take an 18-6 lead. Marymount took a 24-11 score after the first 10 minutes.
The Saints held a double-digit lead throughout the second quarter, taking a 40-23 lead into halftime.
Marymount opened the second half on a 4-0 run to take a 47-34 lead.
Jacqueline Wardrop connected on two free throws to stop the run. With the score 49-27, the Knights finished the quarter on a 9-0 run for a 49-36 score heading into the final 10 minutes.
A jumper by Hunt midway through the quarter pulled the Knights to within seven, 53-46. The Saints answered with a three-pointer to take back a double-digit lead. Marymount would score the final seven points of the game, as Neumann could not sink another basket, for the 60-46 final.
Neumann (8-7, 1-1 Atlantic East) continues conference action on Saturday when it heads to Immaculata. Action is slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
