Knights Hold Off Mighty Macs in Conference Action

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Immaculata University 56-51 on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference contest.  
 
Lauren Klieber and Terea Hunt each put together double-double performances. Kleiber had 15 points and 12 rebounds with two blocks while Hunt had 12 points and 14 boards while adding three steals. Emily DuPont and Jacqueline Wardrop both had solid games. DuPont tallied eight points and five rebounds while Wardrop added eight points and six boards.

The first quarter was a low scoring affair with both teams trading baskets throughout, except for a modest 5-0 run keyed by a Klieber three-pointer and a DuPont layup as the Knights led took a 13-8 lead after the first 10 minutes.
 
Neumann scored the first two buckets of the second for a 17-8 lead advantage. The Mighty Macs responded with a 6-0 run of their own. After a pair of threes for the Knights by Hunt and Mia Blume, Immaculata ended the half on a 9-0 to pull even at 23 for the break.
 
The third quarter started the same way the second did, with a Neumann run, this time of five points, all scored by Klieber. From there Immaculata put together multiple trips to the free throw line and pulled even at 34 with 2:25 left on the clock. The Mighty Macs took a slim 40-38 lead heading into the final quarter.
 
The teams traded leads five times throughout the fourth quarter. A jumper by Chelsea Keebler gave the Knights a 46-45 edge with 4:41 on the clock. It was over two minutes before the next basket when Hunt hit a jumper, followed by a layup by DuPont for a 50-45 score. The Mighty Macs answered with a layup to a three-point game in the final minute of regulation. The Knights went 6-for-8 from the line in the final minute to hold off the Mighty Macs for the five-point win.

Neumann (8-7, 2-1 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Wednesday when it returns home to host Gwynedd Mercy University. The opening tip is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
