ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team had its home opener spoiled by Eastern Mennonite University on Friday night, falling in straight sets, 3-0. Set scores were 25-17, 25-11 and 25-19.
Manny Waugh led the Knights with eight kills.
TJ McConnell and
Veryl Burns each added six kills.
Christian Johnson handed out 17 assists.
Brandon Baskerville notched eight digs.
Down 5-2 in the first set, the Knights rattled off five straight points, including three kills by Burns, for a 7-5 edge. The Royals then scored seven of the next eight points for a 12-8 advantage and then took the set 25-17.
Eastern Mennonite opened the third set by scoring the first four points. The Knights climbed back to within one, 7-6 on another kill by Burns. The Royals built a 16-11 lead. Neumann pulled back with within two, 16-14, but Eastern Mennonite tallied five of the next six points for a 21-15 lead before taking the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
Neumann (0-3) heads to Eastern University on Tuesday evening for a match beginning at 7:00 PM.
