Late First Quarter Run Downs Knights at Cavaliers

RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell 61-50 at Cabrini University on Wednesday evening in Atlantic East Conference action.
 
Lauren Klieber continued to lead the Knights, netting 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the game. Terea Hunt added 12 points and seven boards.
 
Emily DuPont opened the game with a three-pointer. The Cavaliers answered with the next six points. Baskets by Klieber and Hunt put Neumann up by one 7-6. A Cabrini three-pointer and a layup by Aubrie Breisblatt knotted the game at nine with 3:28 on the clock. The Cavaliers then went on an 8-0 run and finished the half scoring 10 of the final 14 points for a 19-13 score after the first.
 
Klieber scored the first basket of the second quarter, but Cabrini then netted nine straight points for a double-digit lead. Klieber continued to hit key baskets and pulled the Knights back to within four, 29-24, with 2:15 left before halftime. The Cavalier hit a three-pointer before the end of the half and took a 34-27 advantage into the break.
 
Each teams had mini runs in the third quarter. Hunt scored with three minutes on the clock for a 49-38 score. Neither team would score again before the end of the quarter. Scoring was scarce to start the fourth quarter. Lindsay Holden hit a layup and Klieber a jumper for a 49-42 score with 6:28 left in regulation. After almost eight minutes of game-time, Cabrini got on the board again with two free throws. The teams traded points down the stretch and the Cavaliers held on for the 61-50 win.
 
Neumann (10-9, 3-3 Atlantic East) heads to Marywood next Wednesday to begin second half conference play. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
