SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team held off a late surge by Marywood University for a 63-60 win on Wednesday evening to start the second half play in Atlantic East Conference action.
Lauren Klieber led the Knights with a double-double, 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Emily DuPont added 10 points.
Aubrie Breisblatt tallied nine and
Chelsea Keebler notched eight.
The Pacers took control of the first quarter, building a lead as large as eight, 16-8.
Mia Blume hit a three-pointer before the end of the quarter for a 16-11 score after 10 minutes.
The Knights scored the first five points of the second quarter to pull even at 16. Tied at 20 with six minutes left before halftime, Neumann scored the next eight points. The teams traded baskets until halftime and the Knights took a 32-24 lead into the break.
Midway through the third quarter, Neumann built a 17-point advantage, 43-26. The Knights took a 14-point lead, 47-33, into the final quarter.
The Knights held a 52-37 lead with 6:16 on the clock before the Pacers started to make their move. Marywood chipped into the deficit and with a minute left in regulation made it a one-possession game, 56-53. The Pacers would foul the Knights to try and pull even, but Neumann made the shots it needed to. Two free throws by DuPont with 11 seconds on the clock ended the come-back attempt, though Marywood would net the final three points of the game.
Neumann (11-9, 4-3 Atlantic East) will host Immaculata University on Saturday for an Atlantic East Conference matchup beginning at 1:00 PM.
