ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's hockey team defeated Lebanon Valley College 3-2 on Friday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Lian Sydorowicz opened the scoring late in the first period. With 3:29 left in the first, the sophomore found the back of the net off a pass from
Taylor Ettore.
The Dutchmen tied the game at one at the 7:05 mark of the second. With 3:05 left before the intermission,
Jasmine Martinez scored off assists from Sydorowicz and Ettore for a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Mikaylee Henhawk found the back of the net 4:40 into the third period. After a scrum in front of the net, the puck squirted back to Henhawk at the blueline. The senior captain hit the slapshot into the back of the net for a 3-1 score.
Lebanon Valley cut the lead to one, 3-2, with a power play goal midway through the third period but could not get the equalizer.
Michelle Winand-Bacon made 20 saves in net for the win. Ettore led the Knights with six shots.
Neumann (3-10, 2-7 UCHC) and Lebanon Valley will meet again tomorrow evening for the second game of the home-and-home series. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
