ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team has earned a No. 5 seed in the Atlantic East Conference playoffs and will head to No. 3 Cabrini on Saturday for first round action.
After missing out on the postseason last season, the Knights had an overall record of 5-13 and a 2-4 record in conference play. Last year, Neumann went winless through the Atlantic East schedule but this year they showed major improvement in head coach
Erik Enters' third season at the helm.
In this year's regular season match-up, the Knights were dealt a 5-1 loss to the Cavaliers. After a scoreless first half, Cabrini scored twice in the first three minutes of the third quarter. Neumann responded with a
Jacki Connolly goal early in the fourth, but Cabrini pulled away with the next three goals to secure the win.
Caley Gee was strong in goal making five saves in the effort.
The Knights have featured a balanced scoring attack this season with Connolly and
Cadence Conti leading the way with three goals each.
Mia Black,
Grace Ginty, and
Torie Millward followed with two goals each.
Emma Schneider had the lion's share of time in the goal making a total of 65 saves.
Lindsey Naulty and
Caley Gee also saw significant minutes in the cage, making 26 and 21 saves, respectively.
St. Mary's grabbed the No. 1 seed as regular season champion while Marywood earned the No. 2 seed. No. 3 Immaculata and No. 6 Gwynedd Mercy will battle in the other first round game on Saturday.
The winner of Neumann/Cabrini and Immaculata/Gwynedd Mercy will advance to the semifinals which will be played on Wednesday.
