HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team defeated Centenary University 3-0 on Wednesday evening in the final Atlantic East Conference match of the regular season. Senior
Regan Hickey notched her 1,000
th career kill in the win.
Hickey finished with 19 kills.
Claudia Bournazel notched 16 digs and
Lauren Garvey added 12.
Dani Smith handed out 31 assists. Set scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 26-24.
The Knights took control of the first set early. Hickey tallied her 1,000
th kill when Neumann took a 20-16 lead as she needed eight kills prior to the match. A Cyclones service error gave the Knight s the 25-19 set one win.
Centenary jumped out to a 7-3 lead in set two. Down 16-12, the Knights scored eight straight points off serves from
Anna Mansel to take a 20-16 advantage. Neumann scored five of the final seven points, capped on by a kill by Hickey, for a 25-18 set two win.
Set three went back and forth and came down to the end. Tied at 19, Neumann scored four of the next five points for a 23-20 edge. The Cyclones answered by scored four of the next five to tie the set at 24. A kill by Garvey and a Centenary attack error gave the Knights a 26-24 third set win and 3-0 match win.
Neumann (17-8, 4-1 Atlantic East) will wrap up the regular season on Saturday in a tri-match at Stockton. The Knights will face the Ospreys at 10:00 AM followed by Eastern at 12:00 PM.
