PITTSTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's hockey team picked up a 7-5 win at King's College (Pa.) on Friday evening in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action. The win is also the first win under first year head coach Michael Hedden.
Seven different Knights scored in the back and forth win over the Monarchs. Each team scored a goal in the first period. King's opened the scoring 2:20 into the game with a power play goal. Neumann answered less than two minutes later as
Yancy Whitaker scored his own power play goal.
Brady Mistler and
Cameron Hatziioannou had the assists.
In the second, each team scored twice. The Monarchs scored a shorthanded goal at the 4:11 mark. The Knights then scored another power play goal as
Tyler Kulas found the back of the net off assists from Whitaker and
Luke Croucher. Just over a minute later,
Tony Andrews put Neumann up 3-2 with an even strength goal.
Max Mila and Kulas had the assists. King's tied the game with under five minutes left before the intermission and the teams remained equal.
The Knights struck quickly in the third, scoring two goals in the first 2:01.
PJ Demitrio put Neumann put Neumann up 4-3 off an assist from
Wyatt Wong.
Ben Gibbons tallied a goal 21 seconds after Wong for the 5-3 lead.
Chase Cochran and
Mykyta Volobuyev had the assists.
Three minutes later, King's scored a power play goal to pull within one. Hatziioannouu joined the scoring and tallied a power play goal just over a minute later to put Neuman back up by two, 5-4. Whitaker and
Joe DiGiulio had the assists.
With time starting to wind down, the Monarchs pulled their goalie and scored to pull within one, 6-5, with 3:21 on the clock. King's pulled its goalie again Mozell iced the win with an empty net goal with under 10 seconds remaining.
Cole DeFazio made 28 saves in net for his first win of the season.
Neumann (1-3, 1-2 UCHC) will faceoff with King's again tomorrow afternoon on the road beginning at 4:00 PM.
