ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University Women's Volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Marymount University Saints in the Atlantic East Conference Championship Match.
The Knights got off to a quick start with a 2-0 lead thanks to an
Anna Mansel kill but Marymount came right back. With the score even at nine, the Saints went on an 11-1 run to pull away. They took the first set 25-15.
In the second set, it was Marymount who started off hot, grabbing a 6-1 lead. Neumann had a four-point stretch, capped by a
Dani Smith service ace, pulling within one, but score five of the next six for a 12-7 lead. With the score at 18-10, the Knights clawed within three, thanks to a 5-0 run, but could come no closer, falling 25-19.
The third set was quite similar with the Saints starting with a 4-1 lead. They went up by as much as five points, but Neumann kept pace from there. Late in the set, they went on a 5-1 run, finished by a
Katela Villasenor service ace, pulling within three, but the Marymount scored the last three points to secure the final set, 25-19, the match, and the title.
Lauren Garvey led the Knights offensively with nine kills, while
Regan Hickey finished with seven kills and added a team-high 13 digs.
Claudia Bournazel had 11 digs and Smith had 10 to go with her 23 assists.
Neumann's season comes to a close with an overall record of 18-11.
