Women's Basketball Upended by Widener
CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team dropped a 71-63 decision to their cross-county, non-conference rivals, the Widener University Pride, on Tuesday night.
The first quarter was a tight, back-and-forth affair throughout the 10-minute period. With the score even at 10, Widener went on a five-point run to temporarily pull away. Neumann was able to come within two points by the time the quarter came to a close.
With 4:04 left in the second, the Pride extended their lead again. This time it ballooned to 11 points. Neumann got the deficit down to five, thanks to a
Jacqueline Wardrop jump shot but a late free throw by Widener allowed to take a 38-32 lead into the break.
After falling behind by nine with seven minutes left in the third quarter, the Knights went on a short run to pull back within four just two minutes later. By the end of the period, Neumann trailed by six. The Knights went on their biggest run with 7:44 left in regulation, pulling within a point thanks to an
Emily DuPont layup but the Pride again extended the lead back to double digits to snag the game.
Lauren Klieber led the Knights effort with 29 points and nine rebounds. DuPont followed with 15 points and Wardop had six.
Terea Tourk was a presence inside the paint with eight rebounds, three steals, and the only two blocks that Neumann would get.
Neumann(4-2) returns to action on Monday night, continuing this five-game road stretch, against Eastern University. The opening tip is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
