ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team hung on for a 51-44 win at Eastern University on Monday night.
Lauren Klieber led the Knights with a double-double, 27 points and 15 rebounds. Five of Klieber's baskets came from beyond the arc.
Terea Tourk tallied seven points and six boards.
Emily DuPont added eight rebounds.
The teams opened the game by trading baskets. Neumann then went on to score 14 of the next 16 points for a 16-4 lead with two minutes left in the first quarter. Eastern netted the final basket of the quarter for a 16-6 score after the first 10 minutes.
The Eagles went on a 9-2 run over the first five minutes of the second quarter to pull within three, 18-15. The Knights answered with a 10-2 run to finish the half and take a 28-17 lead into the break.
The Knights continued to build their lead throughout the third quarter and took a 41-25 lead into the final 10 minutes. Eastern was not going quietly. With Neumann leading 46-19, the Eagles went on an 11-0 run over four minutes to pull within six, 46-40. A layup by Klieber stopped the run.
Jacqueline Wardrop went 3-for-4 from the line in the final minute to seal the win for the Knights.
Neumann (5-2) stays on the road and travels to Delaware Valley on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.
