ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team defeated Cabrini University 1-0 in the 2023 Atlantic East Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The lone goal of the game came in the 21
st minute as
Jake Kuzmick was fouled in the penalty box and the Knights were awarded a penalty kick.
Eddie Proud stepped up and sank the ball into the right corner for the 1-0 lead. Proud was named the MVP after the contest.
Shots were hard to come by in the game. The Cavaliers had 12 overall shots while the Knights had nine. Three of the Cabrini shots made it on net, and
Seth Walker made all three saves. Two of Neumann's shots made it on net, including the penalty shot.
The Knights held the pace in the first half, outshooting the Cavaliers 7-3. Cabrini took control in the second half, leading 9-2 in shots. With 34 minutes left in regulation, a cavaliers shot got past Walker, but
Alex Duopu was there to head the ball away just before it crossed the line.
Neumann (9-4-3) has received the automatic bid for the Atlantic East and will see where it will play next on Monday during the NCAA selection show.
