Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Downs Wilkes

ASTON, Pa. – The Knights finished with double-digit points as the Neumann University Women's Basketball team took it to the Wilkes University Colonels on Monday, defeating them by a final score of 65 -47, in non-conference action.

Neumann got off to a slow start, as Wilkes scored the game's first six points but the Knights responded with the next eight, capped off by an Aubrie Breisblatt three-pointer. With Neumann leading 8-7, they scored eight of the next 11 points to take an 18-10 lead after the first quarter.

To start the second, the Colonels fought back to pull within six but another Neumann run, punctuated by an Elaina Guerzon triple, gave the Knights a 15-point advantage, forcing a Wilkes timeout. The run continued after the quick 30. By the time the Colonels got on the board again, it was a 15-0 run over the last 4:39 of the half, and the Knights led by 21 heading into the locker room.

The halftime chat helped Wilkes got off on the right foot as they started the third with an eight point run. Neumann settled down defensively, and a Jacqueline Wardrop lay-up and a three helped close the quarter with a 9-2 run over the last 5:49, giving the Knights a twenty point advantage heading into the final frame.

The Colonels knocked down two straight threes to start the fourth but once again, the Knights scored the next nine for their largest lead of the game at 23. Over the last five minutes of the game, Wilkes went on a 15-10 run, but could not pull any closer.

Lauren Klieber was a rebound shy of a double-double as she finished with 14 points and nine boards. She was also strong on the defensive side with two blocks and seven steals. Breisblatt added 13 points while Emily DuPont picked up 12. Terea Tourk hounded the boards with nine rebounds of her own.

Neumann (7-3) will be back in action on Wednesday when they head to Media for another non-conference game, this time against Penn State- Brandywine. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
