MEDIA, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team defeated Penn State Brandywine, 74-52, in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening.
Neumann fell behind by five in the early going, but with the score at 7-2, went on an 11 point run to grab the lead. Over the last 1:23 of the first quarter, went on another run, this time of seven points.
Lauren Klieber closed the quarter with a buzzer-beating three, giving the Knights a 20-10 lead.
The Knights continued to pull away, scoring the first five points of the second quarter. With 4:07 left in the half, the Nittany Lions went on a quick run to cut their deficit to single digits at 32-25. Neumann would then score the next five points, capped of by an
Emily DuPont jumper, giving her squad a 12 point lead at the break.
The start of the second half was a back-and-forth affair with neither team taking an advantage. Although Penn State Brandywine got within seven with 7:26 left in the period, went on a 10 point run, extending the lead to 17, just three minutes later. Klieber nailed another three ball at the buzzer and Neumann led by 25. Although the Knights emptied the bench, the lead never dipped below 20.
Lauren Klieber led Neumann with a double-double, picking up 31 points and snatching 11 rebounds.
Aubrie Breisblatt scored 10 points and
Emily DuPont had nine.
Terea Tourk grabbed eight rebounds and four assists, while
Lindsay Holden also had four dishes.
Neumann(7-3) will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Albright College. The opening tip is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
