ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Albright College 66-64 on Saturday afternoon and junior
Lauren Klieber eclipsed the 1,000-career point mark in the win.
Klieber scored her 10
th point of the game and 1,000
th-career point at the 3:17 mark of the second quarter to pull Neumann to within one, 26-25. The junior finished the game with 31 points for the second straight game. Klieber also grabbed 12 rebounds.
Aubrie Breisblatt and
Emily DuPont each scored 12 points.
Terea Tourk added eight points and handed out seven assists.
Tied at 11 with 3:51 left in the first quarter, the Lions went on a 6-0 run to end the quarter and hold a 17-11 lead. A layup by Klieber gave the Knights a 23-22 lead with 5:34 on the clock in the second quarter. After two baskets by Albright, Klieber tallied the 1,000
th point of her career. The teams traded baskets down the stretch and were knotted at 29 at halftime.
The Knights and Lions stayed close in the third quarter and had three tied scores. Albright hit the last basket of the quarter for a 46-44 score heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Klieber scored the first 10 points for Neumann in the fourth quarter, including two three-pointers, and the Knights took a 54-50 lead just over two minutes in. Neumann held a small lead, anywhere from two to six, as the clock continued to tick. Leading 66-60 with 1:25 remaining, Albright hit two free throws and a layup to pull within two points with 36 seconds. The Lions had two looks in the final 10 seconds, but the ball would not fall, and the Knights held on for the 66-64 win.
Neumann (9-3) will be off until after Christmas when it will participate in the Moravian Tournament on December 29 and 30. The Knights will face the host Greyhounds on the first day beginning at 12:00 PM.
