Women’s Basketball Edges Immaculata in Atlantic East Battle

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team edged Immaculata University 70-65 on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
 
Lauren Klieber led four Knights in double-digits with 21 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Terea Hunt tallied 14 points. Emily DuPont also notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Jacqueline Wardrop added 10 points while Lindsay Holden added nine.
 
The Knights held the lead for most of the first quarter. Tied at six, Neumann scored seven straight points for its largest lead of the quarter. The Mighty Macs fought their way back and with the last basket of the quarter took an 18-17 edge after 10 minutes.
 
Immaculata scored the first two points of the second quarter. Back-to-back baskets by Klieber put Neumann back into the lead, 21-20. A basket by Hunt with 4:21 on the clock gave the Knights a 31-24 advantage. A three-pointer by DuPont just before halftime gave the Knights a 36-31 lead at the break.
 
Midway through the third quarter, Neumann built a 13-point advantage, 46-33, on two free-throws by Holden. Immaculata responded with a 10-0 run to get back to within three. Wardrop hit a three-pointer to end the quarter and five the Knights a 51-45 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
 
The Knights led for the entire fourth quarter, including a 10-point lead, 57-47, with 7:38 on the clock. With 3:18 left in regulation, the Mighty Macs pulled to within two, 63-61. Hunt connected on a jumper with 1:23 remaining. Neumann went 5-for-8 from the line in the final minute of play to hold off Immaculata for the 70-65 win.
 
Neumann (12-9, 5-3 Atlantic East) remains home and will host Marymount on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.
