GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball fell in a back-and-forth contest at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference contest.
Lauren Klieber scored a season-high 33 points in the game, along with grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Emily DuPont and
Terea Hunt each tallied 11 points. DuPont also pulled down nine rebounds while Hunt handed out six assists.
The Knights came out and scored the first six points of the game. The Griffins came back with the next six points. After trading baskets, Gwynedd Mercy netted five straight points for a 13-8 advantage. Neumann then went on a 9-0 run for a 17-13 lead with 2:32 left in the first quarter. Klieber connected on two free throws to end the quarter and give the Knights a 19-17 advantage after 10 minutes.
The teams stayed within a few points of one another throughout the second quarter. A three-pointer by DuPont five seconds before halftime put the Knights up 33-29 at the break.
A jumper by Hunt to start the third quarter put Neumann up by six. The Griffins tied the game at 35 midway through the quarter. The teams went back-and-forth, and the Knights took a 47-45 advantage into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Klieber opened the final quarter with a three-pointer The Griffins netted the next seven to take a 52-50 lead. A jumper by Klieber pulled the teams even again with 6:54 left in regulation. Gwynedd Mercy went on to net the next six points before the teams started trading baskets. The Griffins went 8-for-8 in the final 1:38 to keep the Knights from regaining the lead.
Neumann (12-11, 5-5 Atlantic East) will host Cabrini in the final home game of the regular season on Wednesday evening. The Atlantic East Conference matchup begins at 8:00 PM.
