Knights Defense Leads to Win at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team only allowed eight shots on goal on their way to a 10-2 win over Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon. Brendan Boschi paced the Knights with three goals and an assist while Dalton Hofmann and Renzo Garone finished with two goals each.
 
After a scoreless first quarter, Neumann was able to get on the board on a Garone goal with 11:32 left in the second. Three minutes later, Hofmann made it a two-goal lead after a Sam Nice assist. Boschi made it 3-0 with a helper from Kyle Daly before Hofmann struck again for his fifth of the campaign with 24 seconds left in the half for a four-goal lead at the break.
 
4:48 into the third, Wilkes was able to score their first of the game, but the Knights struck back thanks to Wyatt Belotti's unassisted goal just over three minutes later, his fourth of the season. Emmett Wexler got it to a five-goal advantage but the Colonels, with 1:38 left in the third, scored to make it a 6-2 Neumann lead after three.
 
Neumann extended their lead further in the fourth quarter as Garone added his second of the game and seventh of the season with 9:23 left in regulation. Boschi followed with two goals, one minute and 35 seconds apart to complete the hat-trick and grab his 11th of the year. Max Nice tallied his third goal of the season to round out the scoring.
 
Jake Marchiafava shut out the Colonels in three of the four quarters, making six saves for the victory. Jason Fuquay led the defense with three caused turnovers while Hofmann and Jake Methlie had six ground balls each. Methlie also won eight of the 12 face-offs he took.
 
Neumann (2-2) with be back in action next Saturday when they take on Susquehanna University on the road. The game is scheduled for a 1pm start in Selinsgrove, Pa.
