ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team fell short late to Misericordia University, 15-12, on Wednesday afternoon.
Renzo Garone led the Knights with three goals and an assist.
Brendan Boschi added a goal and three helpers.
Justice Brovero and
Dalton Hofmann each added a pair of goals.
Jake Marchiafava made 15 saves in net.
Canon Coyle and
Alex Rucci each picked up six ground balls. Rucci also caused six turnovers.
The teams opened the game trading goals. Misericordia scored the last two goals of the first quarter and the first of the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead. The Cougars doubled up the Knights, 8-4, heading into halftime.
The Cougars opened the second half with a goal for a 9-4 advantage. The Knights then answered with four straight goals. After a goal by Brovero, the Cougars were caught with an illegal crosse and were given a three-minute penalty. Neumann scored three goals on the man-advantage to pull within one, 9-8. Misericordia tallied its own man-up goal to take back a two-goal advantage. The teams traded goals before the end of the quarter for a 11-9 game after three quarters.
After Misericordia opened the scoring in the fourth, Neumann scored three straight goals to pull the game even at 12 with 6:34 on the clock. Boschi tallied the game-tying goal on a man-up advantage off a pass from
Mike Kiley. The Cougars didn't waste and time and took the lead back 36 seconds later. Misericordia added another goal a minute later and sealed the win with a goal with 1:35 left in regulation.
Neumann (4-5) will wrap up non-conference action on Saturday when it hosts Lycoming beginning at 3:00 PM.
