Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Valiant Comeback Falls Short for Knights Against Potsdam

ASTON, Pa. – After falling behind by six in the fourth quarter, the Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team roared to within one before falling 14-12 to the SUNY Potsdam Bears on Monday afternoon.

It was a slow start for Neumann as they gave up the first four goals of the game. With 4:19 left in the first, Justice Brovero scored the first goal of the game for the Knights. Just seven seconds later, Emmett Wexler tallied for a 4-2 deficit at the end of 15 minutes.

For much of the second quarter, the Bears and Knights traded goals. Dalton Hofmann scored with Wyatt Belotti answering the Potsdam attack with a goal of his own. After a two-goal run by the Bears, Mike Kiley fired in his first of the year to make it an 8-5 game. With less than a second left in the half, the Bears scored from distance to pull ahead by four at the midway break.

SUNY Potsdam started the scoring 13:47 left in the third but Hofmann answered to keep pace. Six minutes later, the Bears again scored and then Wexler responded. A minute later the Bears took a 12-7 lead to end the period.

1:06 into the final frame, the Bears made it 13-7 but that served to wake up the Neumann effort. Wexler picked up the hat trick goal at 13:14. Max Nice followed four minutes later with a man-up goal, then Hofmann tallied less than a minute later. With 4:43 left, Hoffman grabbed his fourth goal of the game and Kyle Daly, 58 seconds later pulled the Knights within one. Right after the ensuing faceoff, the Bears sealed the game with their final goal.

In addition to Hofmann's four goals, he had four shots on goal, as did Wexler. Jake Methlie won 21 of 28 faceoffs while grabbing 15 ground balls. Brendan Boschi was strong behind the cage with three assists on the game. Brovero led the defensive effort with five caused turnovers. Jake Marchiafava made seven saves in goal.

Neumann (2-4) will be back in action on Wednesday night as they host Goucher College. The game is scheduled for a 7pm start.
