ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team, in a low-scoring affair, defeated the Goucher College Gophers, 6-5, in non-conference play on Wednesday night.
Emmett Wexler got the game started for the Knights after a feed from
Brendan Boschi for the lone goal of the first quarter. 1:10 into the second, Goucher tied the game up, but Wexler struck again just under two minutes later for his 11
th of the year. Boschi followed with a goal at the 8:11 mark for a two-goal lead although Goucher responded not long after to make it a 3-2 game at the half.
27 seconds into the third quarter, Boschi picked up his team-leading 14
th goal of the year to start off a three goal run. With 2:02 left in the quarter,
Dalton Hofmann made it 5-2 and 58 seconds into the fourth, it was
Renzo Garone's turn with a man-up goal. From there, Goucher made a run to tie the game and force overtime, but they fell one goal short.
Wexler led the attack with two goals and two assists while Boschi added two goals and one assist.
Jake Methlie won nine of the 14 faceoffs he took,
Kyle Daly had two caused turnovers, and in goal,
Jake Marchiafava made 10 saves, including helping fend off a six on three man-down situation in the fourth quarter.
Neumann (3-4) will be back in action on Saturday when they head to Pittsburgh to take on Chatham University. The game against the Cougars is schedule for a 12pm.
