Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Knights Upend Marywood for Close Victory

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's Lacrosse team defeated the Marywood University Pacers in Atlantic East Conference action on Saturday afternoon by final score of 11-10.

Renzo Garone got the scoring started just 19 seconds into the game after receiving a feed from Dalton Hofmann for an early 1-0 Knights lead. Marywood tied the game two minutes later, but Brendan Boschi nabbed an unassisted goal two minutes after that to retake the lead. Over the last three minutes of the first quarter, the Pacers went on a three-goal run for a 4-2 lead.

Neumann scored the only three goals of the second, and all late in the quarter. With 4:52 left, Kyle Daly notched an unassisted goal and Wyatt Belotti tied the game 1:30 later. With just over a minute left to the break, goalie Owen Avelar rocketed a long distance shot to give the Knights a 5-4 lead after 30 minutes.

Boschi continued to pace Neumann with two more goals at the 14:21 and 12:37 marks, both unassisted for a three-goal advantage. Three minutes later, Marywood broke the five-goal run. The rest of the quarter went scoreless, and Neumann had a 7-5 lead.

The fourth quarter featured a total of nine goals as the offense for both teams stepped up looking for the win. Justice Brovero and Boschi extended the lead to four with goals less than two minutes apart. That seemed to wake up Marywood as they scored the next three just 2:12 apart, pulling within one. Mile Kiley, with the man-up, broke up the run and Sam Nice followed with 2:51 left to return the Knights' lead to three. Although, the Pacer scored two to pull within one, that's as close as they would get.

Boschi led the offense with four goals and an assist, adding three ground balls and a caused turnover. Jake Methlie led in ground balls with five while Todd Garrett and Luke Sykes had four each. Garrett also caused two turnovers. In addition to his first collegiate goal, Avelar picked up the win, making 16 saves between the pipes, helping break a six-game skid.

Neumann (5-10, 1-4 Atlantic East) will close out the regular season on Wednesday with a road Atlantic East Conference against Centenary University. The game is scheduled for a 6pm start.
