ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Men's lacrosse team were handed a 23-6 loss by the Cabrini University Cavaliers to start off Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday afternoon.
Cabrini went on a 10-0 run to close out the first 15 minutes with a big lead. They controlled the second quarter, outpacing Neumann 6-0 for a 16-0 at the break. At the 9:02 mark of the third,
Mike Kiley scored for the Knights on a feed from
Renzo Garone. Cabrini scored the next three goals over a 1:09 span before
Brendan Boschi potted home a goal from a
Dalton Hofmann pass, closing out the period with a 19-2 deficit.
Hofmann scored the first two goals of the fourth, 2:54 apart but the Cavaliers netted the next three in a row. With 5:38 left, Garone got Neumann on the board, thanks to a Kiley assist. After a Cabrini goal, Hofmann dropped home a man-down goal with 46 seconds left to close out the scoring.
Hofmann finished with three goals and an assist. Kiley and Garone followed with a goal and an assist each.
Canon Coyle and
Owen Avelar each scooped up three ground balls. Avelar added 11 saves in a relief effort in goal.
Neumann (4-7, 0-1 Atlantic East) will be back in action, next Wednesday, when they travel to Immaculata. Game time against the Mighty Macs is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
