Baseball Splits, Eliminated from Postseason Play

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team opened Friday with a 7-1 win over Marymount University in the first elimination game of the 2023 Atlantic East Conference Championship. The Knights then fell to Cabrini University 9-4 in the second elimination contest.
 
The Knights stayed alive with a 7-1 win over Marymount in the first elimination game of the day. Zach Mullins went 7.0 innings for the win and allowed one run on three hits and struck out four. Nick Colon pitched 2.0 shutout innings.
 
Nick Glebocki led off the game with a single and scored on a single by Brandon Colon for a 1-0 lead. The Saints answered with a two-out run in the bottom of the first.
 
The Knights answered back in the second. With the bases loaded, Glebocki was hit by a pitch and Josh Finger scored. Shawn Vega then hit a sacrifice fly to score Morgan D'Amico and give Neumann a 3-1 lead.
 
Neumann scored two more runs in the fourth as Vega walked with the bases loaded. Glebocki scored on a double-play for a 5-1 score.
 
In the eighth, the Knights added two runs again. D'Amico doubled and scored on a double by Chris Balshuweit. Balshuweit then scored on a double by Vega.
 
In game two of the day, Neumann fell 9-4 to Cabrini for its second loss in the double-elimination tournament. D'Amico started on the mound for the Knights and allowed three runs over four innings. Colon went three innings and Aidan Jackson pitched the bottom of the eighth.
 
Down 7-0 in the sixth, the Knight broke through on the scoreboard. With two runners on base, Andrew Curran singled to knock in Balshuweit. Vega came around to scored on a single by Finger.
 
The Knights made some noise in the ninth inning. With one out, Neumann had three straight singles by Ryan Lopez, Jonathan Baker and Tyler Kilmer, to score a run. With two outs, Balshuweit knocked in Baker for the eventual 9-4 final.
 
Neumann finishes the season 19-23 overall.
