ASTON, Pa. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Knights struck early as the Neumann University Baseball team shutout the Marywood University Pacers by a 5-0 score, winning two out of three games over their Atlantic East rivals.
Nick Glebocki and
Chris Balshuweit each went 2 for 3 to lead the Knights. Glebocki scored twice and Balshuweit scored one run.
Andrew Curran drove in four runs during his 1 for 3 day, with a triple.
Shawn Vega and
Isaiah Payton each reached base twice, both going 1 for 2 with a walk. Vega added a run scored.
Glebocki and Balshuweit each hit a single up the middle to lead off the bottom of the first. After Vega hit a bunt single to load the bases, Curran reached on an error to plate Glebocki for the game's first run.
Brandon Colon followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Balshuweit for a 2-0 Knights lead.
In the second,
Josh Finger singled to center and moved to third when Glebocki hit a base hit. Two batters later, Vega was intentionally walked to load the bases. Curran followed with the big blow of the game, smashing a bases-clearing triple to right-centerfield. Although he was thrown out trying to stretch it to a home run, the damage was done, and Neumann took the game and the series.
Zach Mullins picked up the complete game win to improve to 3-4 on the year. In seven innings, he gave up five hits and walked four, while striking out four.
Neumann (16-20, 6-9 Atlantic East) will return to action on Thursday for Senior Day as they host Centenary University. First pitch for the final regular season home game is scheduled for 3:30pm.
