FREDERICK, Md. – The Neumann University headed down I-95 to open their 2023 season against the Hood College Blazers, earning an impressive 5-0 victory.
In the seventh minute, Hood nudged a soft pass toward their keeper, but it was deflected away.
Jake Kuzmick deposited the loose ball into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.
After the halftime break, and a quick throw-in, the ball was touched to the side of the cage and
Luke Mejia, on an extremely sharp angle, picked up the goal to double the lead in the 66th minute. Eight minutes later,
Jon Zubert headed home a cross from the left side to give Neumann a 3-0 lead. The Knights'
Chimdi Ekwem scored twice in 43 seconds to close out the game's scoring with six minutes left on the clock.
Gianni Smith fired five shots towards goal with two on the cage. Kuzmick also had two shots on goal.
Seth Walker started the game between the uprights and did not need a save for the shutout.
The Knights(1-0) will return to action on Tuesday when they open their home schedule with a non-conference match against Rutgers-Camden. The opening kick is slated for 7:00 PM at the Neumann University Turf Field.
