ASTON, PA. – The Neumann University Men's Soccer team dropped a tight non-conference match against the Widener University Pride by a final score of 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
In a back-and-forth first 25 minutes, it was Widener who got on the scoreboard first after a free kick got loose in the six-yard box and careened off of the crossbar and went over the goal line, giving the Pride a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later,
Jake Kuzmick took a long pass and turned it into a breakaway. He faked to the middle and was able to pass the ball into the empty net for his third goal of the season, equalizing the match.
The second half saw Widener take control of the game as they had the Knights pinned in their defensive end for the vast majority of the time. With 2:37 left on the clock, the Pride worked their way inside the 18-yard box, and after a huge save by
Seth Walker, Widener put home the rebound to snatch the game away from Neumann.
In addition to his goal, Kuzmick led the offense with four shots, three on goal.
Christian Worthington took two shots, with one on goal, and
Luke Mejia also had a shot on goal. Walker made three saves in the effort.
