Women’s Volleyball Takes Four Set Battle

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over Washington College on Wednesday evening.
 
Regan Hickey led the Knights with 15 kills. Anna Mansel and Naye Cruz each tallied 11 kills. Lauren Garvey notched 10 while Jules Dill added nine. Dani Smith handed out 47 assists and notched 18 digs. Claudia Bournazel finished with 17 digs while Hickey added 13 and Garvey had 10. Emma Dobberstein added eight digs and three service aces.
 
The match started back and forth and while down 12-11, the Knights scored six straight points to take a 17-12 advantage. After three points by the Shorewomen, Neumann rallied for six more points for a 23-15 lead. A kill by Smith and a Washington attack error gave the Knights the 25-16 set one win.
 
Tied at eight in set two, Washington scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 17-10 lead. Neumann pulled to within three a few times but could not pull even and the Shorewomen took set two 25-20.
 
Set three was no different with the teams going back and forth. Tied at 17, the Knights scored five straight points. Washington scored the next three points before each team netted a pair for a 24-22 score. A Shorewomen service error gave Neumann the 25-22 set two win and give Neumann a 2-1 match lead.
 
Washington opened the fourth set by scoring the first six points. Not going away quietly, Neumann pulled to within one 12-11 and pulled even at 16. From then on, the team traded point for point and were tied at 25. A kill by Hickey and a Washington attack error gave the Knights the 27-25 come-from-behind set four win and 3-1 match win.
 
Neumann (8-5) heads to Goucher on Saturday for a tri-match with Widener. The Knights will face the Pride at 1:00 PM followed by the Gophers at 3:00 PM.
