ASTON, PA. – The Neumann University Field Hockey team battled hard after a lightning delay but fell to the Drew University Rangers by a score of 3-2 on Thursday night.
Drew took the possession advantage early on and midway through the first quarter converted on a penalty corner to take a 1-0 lead. 58 seconds in to the second quarter, the Knights were awarded a corner and responded with a precision give and go as
Brigitte Maikisch tallied after a pass from
Jamie Reed.
With 5:35 left in the third quarter, the Rangers struck on another penalty corner to regain the lead. 1:43 later,
Jessica Silver scored on a penalty corner and after receiving a pass from
Elle Smith, once again equalizing the game at two apiece. Unfortunately for Neumann, it only took a little over a minute for Drew to respond as they broke into the circle on a two on one and took the lead for good.
Cadence Conti put the pressure on the Rangers' defense with two shot attempts.
Lindsey Naulty got the start in goal, making two saves in 30 minutes of time.
Emma Schneider took over after the break and made five saves to help keep the Knights in the game.
Neumann(1-2) will return to the Turf Field on Saturday afternoon with a home non-conference clash against Hood College. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
