Women’s Basketball Upends Marywood

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team took down Marywood University in an Atlantic East Conference clash on Wednesday night by a final score of 56-36.

Neumann scored the first 12 points of the game in a dominating first five minutes of the game. They continued to control play on their way to an 18-1 run, closed by a Terea Tourk jump shot with three minutes left in the first. Although Marywood scored the last eight points of the quarter, the Knights still had a nine point lead.

The Knights extended the lead to 12 on the strength of a five point stretch, highlighted by an Aubrie Breisblatt three pointer, over the first four minutes of the second. The Pacers closed out the half with a 9-1 run to pull within four at the interval.

After two free throws got Marywood within two, Neumann reasserted themselves with a 7-2 push, extending the lead to six with 3:19 left in the third. They continued to add to the lead as they picked up 11 of the last 12 points of the quarter, giving them a 42-26 advantage after three.

The first five minutes of the fourth quarter went back and forth as Neumann was only able to add two points to the lead. Over the last five minutes, including a 6-0 stretch closed by a Hannah Asaka layup, the Knights extended the advantage to 20, giving them an important conference victory.

Lauren Klieber led the offense with a 17 point performance, adding five rebounds. Tourk came off the bench and put up 12 points and seven boards. Breisblatt scored eight points and eight rebounds, again working from the bench.

Neumann (12-6, 2-2 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Saturday when they battle Penn State Berks in a non-conference match-up. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
