ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball teams used a late 15-0 run to come away with a 69-64 win over Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon in and Atlantic East Conference matchup.
Emily DuPont led the Knights with 17 points.
Terea Tourk and
Lauren Klieber each netted 14 points.
Aubrie Breisblatt and
Jacqueline Wardrop each tallied nine points and
Bri Gautier added six points off the bench. Tourk grabbed eight rebounds. DuPont and Klieber each added seven.
The fist quarter went back and forth with four lead changes and two tied scores. A Griffins jumper with 21 seconds left gave Gwynedd Mercy a 14-12 lead after the first. Gwynedd Mercy led throughout the second quarter. Leading 26-24, the Griffins finished the half on a 9-2 run for a nine-point advantage, 35-26, at the break.
With the Griffins leading 50-40 with 2:33 left in the third, the Knights finished the quarter on a 5-0 run and continued into the fourth scoring the first 10 points for a 15-0 run and 55-50 lead midway through the fourth.
The game came down to the end. Gwynedd Mercy pulled within one, 63-62, with under a minute left. A layup by Gautier and the Knights going 4-for-6 from the line gave Neumann the 69-64 come-from-behind win.
Neumann (14-7, 3-3 Atlantic East) will host Centenary next Saturday in Atlantic East Conference action beginning at 1:00 PM.
