Women’s Basketball Slows Cyclones on Senior Day

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Centenary University 70-61 on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action.
 
Prior to the game, the Knights honored their seniors: Keeley Ciszkowski, Jacqueline Wardrop and Hannah Asaka, along with fifth-year Terea Tourk.
 
Emily DuPont led the Knights with 23 points in the game. Aubrie Breisblatt netted 17 points. Wardrop and Lauren Klieber each added 11 points. Klieber also grabbed nine rebounds.
 
The teams remained close throughout the first quarter, with three lead changes and two tied scored.  A Cyclones basket in the final minute gave Centenary a 15-13 lead after one.
 
Centenary held a small lead throughout the second quarter until a three-pointer by Wardrop tied the game at 25. A layup-and-one by DuPont with eight second before the half put the Knights up 28-27 at the break.
 
After trading baskets to start the half, the Knights went on a 9-0 run for a 39-29 score. The Cyclones answered with the next seven points to pull within three. Two free throws by Asaka with 2:11 left in the quarter put Neumann up 48-41. A free throw by Berisblatt was only point scored in the rest of the third and the Knights took a 49-41 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
Midway through the fourth quarter, a three-pointer by Wardrop put the Knights up by 20, 66-46. The Cyclones then went on an 11-0 run for a 66-57 score with 2:22 left in regulation. Centenary would not get any closer and Neumann came away with the 70-61 win.
 
Neumann (15-7, 4-3 Atlantic East) heads to Marywood next Saturday for more conference action beginning at 1:00 PM.
