ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team fell to Marymount University 3-1 on Wednesday evening in an Atlantic East Conference match.
Julia Solomon tallied 11 kills for the Knights.
Nayeli Cruz added 10 kills with a .350 hitting percentage.
Dani Smith handed out 34 assists and 15 digs.
Melissa Eddy notched 14 digs and
Jenna Jones added 10.
Marymount opened the match by scoring the first five points. The Knights chipped their way into the deficit and tied the set at 12. The teams went back and forth and remained tied at 17. The Saints finished the set by scoring eight of the next 10 points to take set one 25-19. The Saints scored the first five points of the second set as well and used a few runs to win set two 25-14.
The Knights jumped out to an early 4-1 and 7-3 lead in the third set. Neumann scored seven straight points to extend its lead to 14-4. A kill by Cruz sealed the 25-18 set three win and force a fourth set. This was the first time since the 2018 season where the Knights took a set from the Saints.
The teams remained close to start the fourth set until Marymount started to pull away and take the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.
Neumann (7-13, 1-1 Atlantic East) will host Marywood and John Jay on Saturday for a tri-match. The conference match against the Pacers will kick off the day at 11:00 AM.
