ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Soccer team ended a seven-game winless skid with a dramatic 3-2 win over Atlantic East rival Centenary University on Wednesday afternoon.
Neumann put together a strong attack to start but, in the 29
th minute, a penalty kick would give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. Late in the first half,
Hannah Dang took
Sierra Lester corner kick and blasted it past the goalkeeper in the 43
rd to tie the game.
Fifteen minutes into the second half,
Julianna Hatt slipped a through ball to
Marisa Nicolucci who moved in alone on the goalie and rolled it in for a 2-1 lead. The advantage was short-lived as Centenary equalized just two minutes later. With two minutes left, Neumann was awarded a corner kick. Nicolucci dropped it into the box and
Jaclyn Burmood headed the ball into the net to grab the win.
Morghan Stiles led the Knights with seven shots, two on goal.
Catherine Miller had four shots, one on goal, while Dang, Hatt, and Nicolucci took three shots each.
Neumann(5-7-1, 1-0 Atlantic East) will be back in action on Saturday when they host Marywood for Senior Day. The second conference match of the season is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
