Women’s Volleyball to Host Marywood in AEC Semis

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Volleyball team is ready to start their postseason run as they will take on Marywood University in the Atlantic East Conference semifinals on Thursday night at 7:00 PM.
 
The Knights had an overall record of 12-18, going 5-1 in conference to secure the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic East tournament. Marywood is the No. 3 seed after a conference record of 4-2 and an overall record of 8-19.
 
Melissa Eddy led the Knights offensively with 290 kills and 332 points in 27 matches. Julia Solomon followed with 241 kills in her 26 matches. In 27 matches, Nayeli Cruz contributed 222 kills. Dani Smith had a strong regular season with a total of 947 assists, putting her ninth in a single season in Neumann history. She also led the team in service aces with 59 with Jenna Jones behind her with 43.
 
Taylor Long led the way on the defensive side with 14 block solos and 35 block assists for 44 totals blocks, all team highs. Cruz was right there with her putting together eight block solos, 34 block assists for 42 total blocks. Hannah Strohm had a team-high 415 digs while Smith had 378, and Eddy had 238.
 
In the only regular season meeting between the Knights and Pacers, Neumann came away with the 3-1 win on October 19th. Neumann fell in the first set, 25-18, but rolled from there winning 25-10, 25-7, 25-17. Cruz had 12 kills and three blocks. Eddy had six aces, Smith had 42 assists, and Strohm had 16 digs.
 
In the other semifinal, No. 1 seeded Marymount hosts #4 Gwynedd Mercy. The winners of Thursday's game will meet on Saturday in the Atlantic East Conference Championship at the home of the highest remaining seed.
