COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Ursinus College 72-68 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
Emily DuPont exploded for 22 points.
Lauren Klieber added 18 points and eight rebounds.
Jacqueline Wardrop and
Aubrie Breisblatt each tallied 15 points.
The teams were even the entire game with 13 lead changes and eight tied scores. Two of the lead changes and one tied score came in the final minute and a half of regulation. A jumper by the Bears with 1:34 on the clock put them up 57-56. Wardrop then connected on a layup and the Knights went back up by one 58-57 with 41 seconds left.
Ursinus went 1-for-2 from the line with 18 seconds to tie the score at 58. The Knights had a last second shot, but it wouldn't go, and the teams went to overtime.
Overtime wasn't much different from regulation as the teams were tied at 68 in final minute of the first OT. The Bears fouled the Knights and Klieber went 2-for-2 from the line to take the lead. Ursinus missed a layup and Breisbltt picked up the rebound. Just before the buzzer, DuPont was founded and sunk both shots to seal the win.
Neumann (2-1) heads to Albright on Tuesday evening for action beginning at 7:00 PM
