ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team upended Haverford College in a non-conference game on Thursday night by a final score of 59-51.
Neumann got off to a fast start by scoring the game's first five points culminating in a 14-2 run over the first four minutes of the game. After a Haverford bucket, they went on another quick 6-0 run for a 20-4 lead with 3:33 left in the first. The Fords closed out the period with 10 straight points to pull within six after the first quarter. The second was a low-scoring quarter as Haverford outscored the Knights, 8-7, and Neumann had a 27-22 lead at the half.
Throughout the third, Haverford started to chip away at their deficit. Halfway through the quarter, the Fords pulled within three. They were able to get within one with 1:47 remaining but Neumann went on 6-2 lead to extend the lead to five. A buzzer-beating three-pointer by Haverford got them within two heading into the fourth. The Knights pushed away during the final period with a 12-5 stretch over the first 6:33 for a 53-44 lead. From there, Neumann hit their free throw to secure the victory.
Lauren Klieber led the offensive effort with 24 points, adding five rebounds.
Emily DuPont added 18 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks while
Jacqueline Wardrop was a point shy of a double-double with nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Neumann (4-1) will return to the court on Saturday afternoon when they host Widener in another non-conference match up. The opening tip is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
