ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball opened the 2024-25 season against Lebanon Valley College and suffered a 68-58 loss on Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter was a very tight contest with neither team gaining more than a two point lead. After the first 10 minutes, Lebanon Valley had a 14-12 lead. To open the second, the Flying Dutchwomen went on an 8-3 run for a six point lead. At the 6:49 mark, it was the Knights' turn to make a push as they went on an 8-1 run to take a 23-22 lead. Again, they went back and forth and thanks to a
Lauren Klieber three at the buzzer, the game went to halftime even at 28.
With 7:08 left in the third quarter, and the game even at 35, Neumann pulled away with a six point stretch over the next 90 seconds. They kept that lead until the 2:51 mark but Lebanon Valley scored the last seven points of the period to grab the lead heading to the fourth. Neumann got the first bucket of the final quarter the Flying Dutchwomen went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. Halfway through, the Knights got within three but again, Lebanon Valley extended their lead to 12 with 1:21 left.
Klieber led Neumann with a double-double, netting 26 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, including a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line.
Aubrie Breisblatt was also 100% from the line, going 4 for 4 on her way to 12 points.
Jacqueline Wardrop followed with 10 points.
Neumann (0-1) will be back on the court on Wednesday night for their home opener against Penn State Brandywine. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
