BRONX, N.Y. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team suffered an 83-59 setback against Trinity College in the championship game of the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Neumann fell behind to start as Trinity scored the first six points of the game. They closed the first quarter with an 11-5 run to take a 17-8 lead after the first ten minutes. With 9:22 left in the second,
Lauren Klieber concluded a quick 3-0 run, but the Bantams scored the next eight points before Klieber struck again to make it 27-13 with five minutes to go in the half. By the time the end of the quarter came, Trinity held a 20-point advantage.
Over the first four minutes of the third quarter, Trinity went on a 12-3 run and the Neumann deficit ballooned to 29. The Knights responded to that adversity with a 20-4 run of their own to close the quarter only down by 13. The third quarter push by Neumann didn't continue into the fourth as Trinity scored nine of the first 11 points to seal the game.
Kleiber led the Neumann offensive attack with a game-high 33 points along with six rebounds. She shot 56.5% from the field and was 5 for 7 from beyond the three-point arc. In recognition of her efforts this weekend, she was named to the All-Tournament team.
Emily DuPont added 13 points, four assists, five rebounds, and two blocks.
Bri Gautier contributed six points and six boards.
Neumann (8-5) will return to action on Saturday, January 4
th, when they open Atlantic East Conference play against Marywood University. The opening tip-off from the Mirenda Center is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
