SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team got hot late and held off Marywood University 59-49 on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action.
Lauren Klieber netted 16 points and eight boards for the Knights.
Emily DuPont added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Aubrie Breisblatt tallied nine points and
Terea Tourk added eight.
The Knights jumped out early, taking a 9-2 advantage midway through the first quarter. The Pacers ended the quarter on an 11-5 run for a 14-13 score after the first 10 minutes. Both teams scored 10 points in the second quarter Neumann took a 24-23 edge into halftime.
A three-pointer by the Pacers midway through the third quarter tied the game at 31. Marywood held a small lead for the rest of the quarter and took a 39-37 advantage into the final 10 minutes.
A three-pointer by Klieber to open the fourth quarter put Neumann back in the lead. After four lead changes, two free throws by DuPont gave Neumann a 46-45 edge. The free throws started five straight points for the Knights. A layup by Klieber with 2:01 left in regulation gave Neumann a 54-49 edge.
The Knights went 5-for-6 from the free throw line to hold off any Pacer comeback and took home the 59-49 win.
Neumann (16-7, 5-3 Atlantic East) heads into the final week of the regular season with two conference home games. The first will be Marymount on Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.
