ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team dropped the regular season finale 72-67 to Immaculata University on Friday evening in Atlantic East Conference action.
Lauren Klieber exploded for 38 points in the game, going 16-for-20 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the line. The junior added four blocks and a steal.
Terea Tourk notched a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Emily DuPont added 14 points.
The Mighty Macs opened the game with a 10-2 run over the first 4+ minutes. Over the next three minutes, the Knights went on an 8-2 run for a 12-10 score. Immaculata then scored five straight before Neumann scored six straight to end the first half for a 17-16 Mighty Macs lead after the first 10 minutes.
Immaculata netted the first eight points of the second quarter for a 25-16 lead. The Mighty Macs continued to build their lead throughout the quarter and took a 44-31 lead into halftime. The Mighty Macs lead by as many as 19 in the third quarter and held a 64-47 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The Mighty Macs held a 67-53 lead with six minutes left in regulation. The Knights went on a 12-2 run to pull within four, 69-65, with a minute left in regulation. Immaculata went 1-for-2 from the line for a five-point edge. Klieber hit two free throws with 22 seconds remining to get back to within three.
The Knights tried to steal the ball for a chance to tie the game. Immaculata connected on its two free throws with 15 seconds on the clock to extend its lead back to five and hold off the Neumann comeback.
Neumann (16-9, 5-5 Atlantic East) will be the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and will host Marywood on Monday evening in an Atlantic East Conference first round contest. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
