ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball team picked up a big win in the first round of the Atlantic East Tournament, upending Marywood University by a score of 84-47, on Monday night.
It took a few minutes for things to warm up with Neumann taking a five point lead after 2:57 of play. Over the next minute and a half, Marywood took a one point lead on a quick 6-0 run. That lead is the only one they would enjoy as the Knights responded with a 6-0 run to retake the lead. They would end the first with a 17-10 advantage.
Although the Pacers scored five of the first eight points of the second quarter, Neumann took full control of the game with a 17-2 run over a four and a half minute span, making it a 20 point game with two minutes remaining. Marywood tried to claw back into it but it was 41-22 at the half.
Another long run started the third, this time it was 13-2, pushing the advantage to 30. A
Lindsay Holden three-pointer closed out the third, giving the Knights a 36 point edge. Neumann continued to pour it on, even when bringing in a number of bench players, as the shots kept on falling. A 14-2 run started to fourth, giving them their largest lead of the game, before cruising to the finish.
Four Knights finished with double-digit points, led by
Lauren Klieber's 21.
Emily DuPont dropped 18 while
Terea Tourk had a huge all-around game with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Aubrie Breisblatt scored 12 points, and the fifth starter,
Jacqueline Wardrop hounded the boards with a team-high nine rebounds.
Neumann(17-9) advances to the Atlantic East Semi-finals on Wednesday when they take on Immaculata University. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
